Comments from the Community The articles and comments in this section do not necessarily reflect the views of the B&BCAG. Commentarian with Portfolio "J. B." (J. Besharian) - 3/26/09 We were at a City Council meeting a couple/three of weeks ago, making a presentation, when Mayor Cabaldon noted that "They" (meaning our Bryte & Broderick community Action Group) have become a 'force' to be reckoned with, in the community". My response? Why, now that you mention it, I guess we have. (This is a good thing, to my way of thinking.)
The question is: A force for what? We are a "force" for giving voice to a community which has felt (rightly or wrongly) left behind when it comes to many of the amenities we've observed being showered on other areas of this city since it's incorporation. We are a "force" for gathering information from our residents regarding our needs, hopes, gripes and aspirations (our "Vision", if you will) for our community's betterment. We are a "force" for marshaling resources for community projects, i.e.: people, places, products and things. We are a "force" for bridging the gap (although it may seem, at times, a "chasm") between our community and those who make the decisions that affect us; be they local, state or federal - public, or private - entities. We are not looking to compete with other community groups, organizations or associations within this city, but, rather to join forces with them whenever possible, so that we all may "Lift ourselves up by our bootstraps", as it were.
At the same time, we are a "force" that is trying to help our community keep it's unique identity and self respect, without becoming a homogenous, bland (a "pale" by comparison) clone of some other place, (Davis, Roseville, Rocklin and San Francisco come to mind). (If I may rephrase: "We get our respect the old fashioned way - we earn it.".)
