Senior Transportation Task Force: Ride-Along (December 2011)
The City of West Sacramento Parks and Recreation Department convened the Task Force earlier this year. Members include representatives from City staff, YoloBus, City Commission on Aging, BBCAN, and senior residents of West Sacramento. For one of the first Task Force activities, task force members and invited seniors participated in a 2 1/2 hour regular route bus ride around West Sacramento. The purpose was to experience the challenges and questions that may confront first time riders. See the photos.

Transportation is a major concern for our older residents. Individuals become discouraged, frustrated and mystified when they are not aware of transportation opportunities, when they hear conflicting information, or when they don't know where to express their questions and suggestions. The Summit was an opportunity to learn about transportation availability and access, and discuss how we can be creative with resources including time, money, volunteers and transit options. With limited resources and strong partnerships, our goal is to begin the conversation and enlist the help of volunteers to carry it to the next level. Send us an email if you want to be involved.
