Introducing Interim Superintendent Michele Lawrence
The board has selected Michele Lawrence as the Interim Superintendent of the School District. Ms. Lawrence recently retired as Superintendent of Berkeley Unified School District where she worked for seven years, and has worked in California schools for over 35 years. She brings to the District, although temporarily, the principles of collaboration, equal opportunity, and high student achievement. Please welcome Ms. Lawrence to our community.
Superintendent Search
The Board has hired The Cosca Group to assist with the search for a new Superintendent. Budget Realities
On February 25, the Board will decide what expenses to reduce and/or eliminate from the District’s Budget. The recommendations suggest cutting close to $2.5 million by restructuring and reducing administrative staff and program support, as well as eliminating key staff and personnel.
School Board Meetings
Washington Unified School District Board of Education meetings are scheduled every second and fourth Thursday of every month, except holidays; and “Special” board meetings are also held on occasion. Agendas are posted online at www.wusd.k12.ca.us (go to “Board of Education” tab) and at the District offices and local library.
