Happy Holidays to the citizens in our community who have supported, volunteered and assisted in countless ways to help BBCAN grow and thrive.

Welcome New BBCAN Board Members
BBCAN is pleased to announce additions to our Board of Directors: Yaminah Bailey, Margo Placencia and René Guerrero. We are excited about the energy, experience, networks and talent they bring to the organization.

Two of our members have recently volunteered to step up as committee chairs: Robbi King (Neighborhoods) and Manuel Valencia (Community Relationships).

BBCAN Toy Drive and Give Away Event
It was a great response and fun for those who attended the December 19th event at the VFW Hall in Bryte. BBCAN Community Relationships Committee distributed gifts to over 60 children, 3 months to 16 years old, who came with their families. In addition, a gift card was presented to a recently widowed local resident and her family. Representatives from the WS Police Department were present and praised the efforts in managing a very successful event. On the following day the remainder of wrapped toys were delivered to Broderick and Bryte homes.

Bryte and Broderick Community Institute (BBCI)
The third session of BBCI will be scheduled on a Saturday in February and announced within the next two weeks. Participants will be notified by phone or email. It's not too late to participate in BBCI workshops to learn how to work within or change systems that affect your community. Sponsored by the City of West Sacramento and BBCAN. more info...

BBCAN Board and Committee Chair Retreat
On Saturday, January 16, 2010, the Board of Directors and Committee Chairs will meet to map BBCAN goals and plans for 2010.

And...

Support our Local Library
There is room for interested teens on the West Sacramento's Arthur F. Turner Community Library Teen Advisory Council. For adults, the Toy Library offers a volunteering opportunity that is fun, particularly as a child's face lights up when borrowing a new toy.

Senior Transportation
One of the attendees at our Senior Transportation Summit on November 7 sent us this comment: "I wanted to sign up with Yolo Bus Special for several months but was confused about how to apply and seemed to run into barriers. I talked with the Yolo Bus representative at the Summit, who gave me his name, I contacted him after the Summit, he told me what to do and helped facilitate my application. Now I have a ride to my doctor. Thank you!"

Watch our calendar for time and date of the next meeting to consider next steps in the conversation. Want to be part of the discussion? You're invited!  more info ...
