Happy Anniversary B&BCAN!
It has been a year since the conversation with the City of West Sacramento and Bryte and Broderick residents began to gain momentum. We want to acknowledge this milestone and invite you to come to our party! On October 10 from 9 am to 11 am in the City Hall Galleria, we are holding an anniversary celebration. Join us for coffee, hear about our projects, talk about your ideas, and learn how you, the citizens, can become engaged through a collaborative network with a stronger voice.

Bryte Time at the Movies
It's FREE and it's FUN. Responding to neighborhood interest and the requests of members of the B&BCAN, the City Parks Department will show a movie in Bryte Park this season. "Kung Fu Panda" will be the feature on Friday, September 25 at sundown. Read about it here. Next year, Bryte Park may be considered as one of the locations for West Sac "Movies in the Park" summer series.

Toy Library
The new Arthur F. Turner Community Library announces a Toy Library program. Volunteers may sign up for one or two 3 to 4 hour shifts per week to manage the toy check-out process. Volunteers will receive training and a background check and fingerprinting are required. B&BCAN is assisting in the volunteer recruitment. To apply, go to volunteermatch.org or call (916) 375-6465.

Senior Transportation Summit to be Held in November
You are invited to learn about local transportation: what is available, what is possible, what are the challenges with limited resources, where to find information, and how you can get involved. Representatives from transportation and transit providers, City of West Sacramento, Yolo Bus and other transportation specialists will be included in the presentations and will provide information. Watch for details and time and date on the B&BCAN website - and bring your Senior friends to this important event.

Community Garden Pilot Project
The Community Garden Pilot Project’s (CGPP) initial phase is complete. There is a demonstrated need from the community, site with water committed, and 60% of the cost for garden infrastructure in place. The CGPP work plan was presented to the B&BCAN Board on September 1st. Next step is the official request to the West Sacramento City Council - date yet to be determined. B&BCAN City of Gardens committee and Yolo County Master Gardeners are collaborating and have presented a series of successful gardening classes at Bryte Park this Summer and Fall. Our Garden Class scheduled for 10/10 will instead be a project overview at the Galleria where we will be from 9-11 a.m. celebrating B&BCAN’s 1 Year Birthday. Stop by our gardening table for an informal presentation and Q&A’s. Classes at the Bryte Park will resume in January 2010 with a Rose Pruning Workshop.
