B&BCAG To Host National Night Out Event
West Sacramento and the nation will roll out the welcome mats and host block parties, cookouts, concerts and youth activities in support of the 26th annual National Night Out (NNO) on August 4, 2009. This event helps strengthen public safety/community. The B&BCAG will be hosting a (NNO) barbeque at Bryte Park from 3:00 – 10:00 p.m with booths, music and fun for the community to enjoy. If you would like to contribute to making this evening a success, we would sincerely appreciate your participation. Volunteer opportunities are also available and if interested, you may contact Yvette Trevino at 916-273-0756.

Senior Transportation Summit Planned for West Sacramento
After several months of meetings with senior citizens, it became clear to the B&BCAG Senior Issues Committee that transportation is a major concern for our older residents. Individuals become discouraged, frustrated and mystified when they are not aware of transportation opportunities, when they hear conflicting information, or when they don't know where to express their questions and suggestions. To meet this need, the B&BCAG and City of West Sacramento Traffic & Transportation Division are planning a Senior Transportation Summit to be held in the fall. The purpose of the Summit will be to bring together transporation providers, public transportation oversight committees, City staff, others associated with transportation decisions, and West Sacramento residents interested in senior transportation. It will be an opportunity to learn about transportation availability and access, participate in a Q & A session, and discuss how we can be creative with resources including time, money, volunteers and transit options. Details about the Summit will be announced later this summer.

Bryte Park Community Garden Project Grows!
The B&BCAG garden committee and the City of West Sacramento Parks and Recreation department staff have identified a 1/2 acre of land [with water] at Bryte Park to be used as a pilot project for a community garden. A Garden Manager, a Garden Designer, and a Garden Construction Crew have been identified. The Garden Manager has written, and B&BCAG has placed on the web site, the garden philosophy, an application form and the garden rules. Two organizations and twenty seven families have signed up as interested in renting a 10 ft. X 20 ft. garden plot [$25.00 per year]. We are seeking funds from all sources. On July 7th, the Parks and Recreation Commission addressed the topics of West Sacramento Community Gardens and the Bryte Community Garden Pilot Project. On Tuesday July 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Elementary School, the B&BCAG Garden Committee will be meeting to form a Steering Committee for the Bryte Park Community Garden Project. We welcome all who are interested in participating.

"Save Our Bryte Post Office" Campaign Going Strong
Thank you all for your support - but it needs to get stronger. We are trying to have as many postal patrons and concerned citizens as possible to write letters, not only to the Postmaster General, but to our congressional representatives and US senators, local California assembly members, state senators, and our Governor (and the President of the United States if it helps). It would be far better for our community if we contacted one too many with the power to affect this pending closure, rather than one too few. Please help us! See our website to learn more information.

Riverbank Cleanup
The Riverbank Cleanup group is setting up their next meeting - the date will be posted on the website calendar. Dates for the clean-up are Saturday, October 17, 2009 with an alternate date for rain (October 24, 2009). We are looking for volunteers. Sign up to volunteer or to find out the next committee meeting date.
