Festa of St. Peter

88th Annual Festa of St. Peter. Members and guests are invited to spend the day at San Pedro Park watching the historical procession, attending a service in the Chapel and enjoying traditional Portuguese foods. Auctions and games will also be held during the afternoon. (SPA members eat free, guests are $10 each)

Harmony on the River

The 2010 Harmony on the River outdoor concert series opens with "Unlicensed Therapy," which specializes in classic rock covers. Free admission at River Walk Park, West Sacramento. Fraud Awareness Fair

The impact of fraud is felt by every household and is particularly targeted at seniors. Become educated and smart about financial and cyber predators. City Hall Galleria, 2 pm to 6 pm. Admission is free with a BBQ lunch (4 to 5 pm), catered by Ludy’s Main Street BBQ, optional at $15.00 per person. See your local law enforcement agency for tickets. more info

Workshop on Budgeting and Setting Financial Goals, including checking and savings accounts, credit, investing and careers. 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Turner Library on Merkley.

CIHC Public Meeting #3

California State Parks is preparing a General Plan and accompanying Environmental Impact Report for the California Indian Heritage Center. Input received on the alternatives presented at Public Meeting 2 will be used to develop the preferred alternative for site use and management. The planning team will present the preferred alternative at this third public meeting. 5:30 to 7:30 pm at City Hall.

BRYTE TIME AT THE MOVIES on August 27
Coming this summer: Movie in the park located for the second year at Bryte Park - presented by the City of WS Parks and Recreation Department. This year: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Movie starts at sundown. Shown on a giant 25' inflatable screen. Bring your family, snacks and a blanket!

WHOOPING COUGH ALERT
The State of California is seeing an increase in the number of cases of whooping cough, up to four times last year's number of cases. It is vaccine preventable. Please check your child's immunization record and talk with your doctor to make sure you child is current. The Yolo County Health Department also provides the vaccine. Questions? FREE COMPUTER CLASSES
Classes are being offered at the Turner Library on Merkley on July 6, July 20, Aug 3 and Aug 17. Topics include online job search, social networking, and basic computer skills. Call 372-6469 for more information.

ELKHORN / BRODERICK ROADS PROJECT
Project is located in Elkhorn-Broderick and Washington neighborhoods including portions of Reed-Sacramento Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard. Installation of traffic calming improvements in the Bryte neighborhood is also included in this project. See a map of the affected streets and an update of the schedule.

FUNDS AVAILABLE TO UPGRADE HOMES
City of West Sacramento now has up to $15,000 in grant funds available for code related issues and energy efficiency retrofits for homeowners. These funds can only be used in Bryte, Broderick and Washington neighborhoods. Income limits apply. Contact Mercy Housing for more information 916-414-4462.

ANNUAL BEST ON THE BLOCK PROGRAM
The City of West Sacramento is accepting entries beginning May 1st for the annual “Best on the Block” program, a curb-side beautification program for residents and small business owners who have or will be making exterior improvements to the front of their property during the summer of 2010. more info
