June 10, 2009
You are invited to our next Meet-Up ... a chance to get to know your neighbors, learn about our projects, and tell us your ideas. Come to Starbucks on June 20 from 9 to 10 am. See a Meet-up flyer and a map to Starbucks at 715 Harbor Pointe Pl in West Sacramento,
A Safer Place to Drive
Did you know that the trees on River Road (22/North Harbor Blvd. going east) are now trimmed? It's much safer for turning onto Riverbank Road because drivers can see the vehicles heading west. Thanks to the City of West Sacramento and the persistence of one of the B&BCAG members, the task was accomplished and the community is a little bit safer.
Riverbank Cleanup
Dates for the clean-up are Saturday, October 17, 2009 with an alternate date for rain (October 24, 2009). We are looking for volunteers.
Sign up to volunteer or to find out the next committee meeting date.
Mosaic Benches at the Riverbank School
The conclusion of a lovely art project was attended by the participants who made it happen: The B&BCAG City of Gardens Committee, West Sacramento Youth Resources Coalition, SacTown Heroes, and the mosaic artist himself, Sal Galvan, proprietor of Sals Tacos. See the photos.
A New Community Garden!
B&BCAG and the City of West Sacramento are discussing establishing a community garden at Bryte Park. The garden would have a formal structure with rules, guidelines and management. B&BCAG is seeking volunteers for the planning and implementation phases. We need you! Sign up here.
Save the Bryte Post Office!
The Postal Service plans to close our little branch post office, the Bryte Station at 1458 Lisbon Ave. Get involved in the B&BCAG campaign to save it. See the website to learn more information.
And what else is going on?
B&BCAG committees are looking at youth resources in West Sacramento, senior transportation, a neighborhood festival, supporting our library's reading programs, historical signage and preservation, and partnerships with other community groups. Do you see something that interests you? Come to our next Meet-Up, or contact us if you would like to come to our next steering committee meeting.
Another Way to Get Involved
West Sacramento Police Chief Dan Drummond is seeking West Sacramento residents and business operators who are interested in applying for the Chief's Advisory Board. The application deadline has been extended to Friday, June 12, 2009.
