Bulky Waste Drop-Off Event

Furniture, carpets, mattresses/box springs, tires and other one-of-a-kind bulky items too large to fit in the curbside garbage container will be accepted from West Sacramento residents for free drop-off. Proof of residency required. Wednesday thru Friday: 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Saturday only: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 540 Harbor Blvd.

Elkhorn/Broderick Road Project Informational Meeting

A neighborhood meeting will provide information about the road improvement project in the Elkhorn, Broderick and Washington neighborhoods this summer. - May 20, 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Elkhorn School. See details and a map of affected streets.

Open House at Station 44

The WS Fire Department is holding its first Annual Open House at Station 44 (905 Fremont Street, West Sacramento) in the Broderick/Bryte area! A fun and informative day for families - open to the public 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.! Safety demonstrations, proper use of child safety seats, fire prevention tips, WSFD Safe Place Program, free hot dogs and refreshments- and "Sparky the Dalmation" will be on hand for photo opportunities! more info

Last day to register to vote

You must register before this date for the June 8, 2010 Primary Election. Easy Voter Guides are available at your local library. Voter registration cards are available at the post office on Merkley. WS Police Department Community Meeting

Members of the WS Police Department present information and are available for comments and questions from residents. Free and open to the public. 7 pm at Riverbank School on Carrie St.

Parks and Recreation Youth Focus Group

The Parks & Recreation department is scheduled to have its 2nd focus group for youth at 3:45 at the Club West Teen Center located in Bryte Park next to Riverbank School. Participants will be asked to describe their favorite recreational activities and assist staff in better understanding what recreation and leisure needs students have, as well as the types of programs, facilities and amenities (both recreational and non-recreational) they would like to see available to them in the City limits. CIHC Public Meeting

The California Indian Heritage Center public meeting will be held at 5:30 PM at City Hall. It is the 2nd General Plan public meeting and will be dealing with project alternatives. For those unable to attend this meeting, there will an additional opportunity to review the alternatives on Thursday, June 10 - same time and place. more info

Flood Control/Levee Informational Meeting

The City of West Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency will hold an informational meeting for residents of Bryte and Broderick including the Rivers. The purpose of the meeting will be to review background issues and timelines, and to address questions about the next phase of levee improvements beginning in Bryte near the Dept of Water Resources Maintenance Yard and ending at River Crest Drive in the Rivers. Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions specific to their streets and neighborhoods. The meeting will be held in the Rivers Clubhouse, 808 Lighthouse Dr, West Sacramento on June 1 at 6:30 pm.

FUNDS AVAILABLE TO UPGRADE HOMES
City of West Sacramento now has up to $15,000 in GRANT funds available for code related issues and energy efficiency retrofits for homeowners. ANNUAL BEST ON THE BLOCK PROGRAM
The City of West Sacramento is accepting entries beginning May 1st for the annual “Best on the Block” program, a curb-side beautification program for residents and small business owners who have or will be making exterior improvements to the front of their property during the summer of 2010. more info
