April 10 Bryte and Broderick Community Institute (BBCI)
The 5th installment of the Bryte and Broderick Community Institute (BBCI 4) will be on April 10 from 9:00am to noon at the Russian Baptist Church on Jefferson and Sacramento Ave. BBCI 5 will focus on Conflict Transformation: How to turn our natural differences into constructive dialogue and positive results. April 17 Dia de los Ninos - Children’s Day
Free event at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library will include a dance performance by Folklorico Latino de Woodland, a presentation by author Francisco X. Alarcon and illustrator Maya Cristina Gonzalez, bi-lingual story time, a raffle for a piñata, free book give a way for children, crafts, and treats. April 17, 2-5 pm. more info
April 20 Smart Cycling Clinic

April 20 Bryte Park Planning: Exhibition & Public Meeting #2
Part 2 of Bryte Park Community Involvement. Professionally rendered concepts will be presented based on the ideas and priorities from the Visioning Workshop in February. Residents will identify preferred themes and ideas that will be the starting point for master planning. April 27 Levee Improvement Program Informational Meeting
Learn about the status of the overall program, the draft environmental impact report that is available for public comment, two levee improvement projects that will begin construction in 2011, and other aspects of the program. May 22 Open House at Station 44
The WS Fire Department is holding its first Annual Open House at Station 44 (905 Fremont Street, West Sacramento) in the Broderick/Bryte area! A fun and informative day for families - open to the public 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.! Safety demonstrations, proper use of child safety seats, fire prevention tips, WSFD Safe Place Program, free hot dogs and refreshments, and "Sparky the Dalmation"!

Bryte Post Office Update
Congressman Mike Thompson, who represents West Sacramento, visited the Bryte Branch Post Office April 2 after hearing from residents that the long-serving neighborhood facility might soon be closed. USPS spokesman Ralph Petty reassured the congressman during the visit that discontinuance of service at this time is no longer contemplated. The Bryte Branch will remain open for the foreseeable future. More info and photos
