Bryte and Broderick Community Institute (BBCI)
The 4th installment of the Bryte and Broderick Community Institute (BBCI 4) will be on March 6 from 9:00am to noon. BBCI 4 will focus on practical ideas for resident-driven projects. We will work on project ideas gleaned from our past meetings and workshops, and map what they would look like if planned from start to finish. This will be a valuable practical exercise where skills will be learned for application in other situations. Participants with all levels of project planning and management experience are welcome. more info...

BBCAN Education and Schools Committee
Following the appointment of a new chair, the Education and Schools Committee is beginning to work closely with the education community with the goal of collaborating or providing input on recommendations, projects and decisions.

The WUSD Board has selected Michele Lawrence as the Interim Superintendent of the School District. Ms. Lawrence recently retired as Superintendent of Berkeley Unified School District where she worked for seven years, and has worked in California schools for over 35 years. The School Board has hired The Cosca Group to assist with the search for a new Superintendent. If you would like to work with BBCAN to give input in the selection criteria - such as skills, experience, abilities - for the new Superintendent candidates, please call 916-837-3240 or email. For additional information about the committee's activities, go to the website. Be informed and participate!

Residential Rehabilitation Program
Do you have a friend or neighbor that needs help with their home remodeling or rehabilitation. The City’s Residential Rehabilitation Program provides low-income homeowners assistance in the form of low-interest loans to correct major home construction deficiencies. This is a great opportunity to give your owner-occupied home some needed repair... roofs, gutters, windows/doors, furnaces, water heaters, plumbing, electrical upgrades, water, insulation, handicap access, some painting, and safety hazards correction. Learn more here! or call Mercy Housing California at (916) 414-4400.

West Sac Counts! 2010 Census
The Census determines the distribution of more than $400 billion annually of government funding for critical community services. It generates thousands of jobs across the country. And it impacts your voice in Congress. That data is used in determining U.S. House of Representative seats, community planning for roads, hospitals, schools and health and other services. If you or your organization would like to participate in the census, contact the West Sacramento Complete Count Committee as soon as possible.

Support our Local Library
Join an Adult English Conversation Group for a fun and relaxed hour of conversation and English language practice at the West Sacramento's Arthur F. Turner Community Library on Friday mornings and Sunday afternoons. If you are interested in participating or becoming a facilitator, call 916-375-6465 or email.

There is room for interested teens on the Library Teen Advisory Council. For adults, the Toy Library offers a valuable volunteering opportunity.

Sactown Heroes Digital Storytelling
The Sactown Heroes are currently working on a digital storytelling project. The purpose of this video is to document change in attitudes and behavior in youth and adults as a result of their involvement with the West Sacramento Youth Resource Coalition. We hope this project will begin to educate others about the importance of Youth Development within our community.

Small Business Assistance
Small Business Recovery Toolkit provides information to small businesses and disabled veterans on how to locate, apply and compete for federal, state and local recovery projects.
